Three Social Taboos Not To Be Ashamed About
Three Social Taboos Not To Be Ashamed About Society is filled with all kinds of opinions on how life ought to be lived. Whether itâs a moral code or a social code, thereâs a definite line between whatâs acceptable and not. You can even hire a professional to tell you whatâs right and wrong. If your life doesnât fit neatly into the box youâre expected to live in, thatâs okay. There are many aspects of life society declares taboo, but are just different ways of living. Here are three ways of life you should never be ashamed of: Not marrying your life partner Weâve come a long way as a society, yet some people still donât approve of those who never marry their life partner. Some believe that marriage is the only viable way to commit yourself to another person. Others feel that not getting married is just an excuse for someone to keep their options open. However, the truth is never black and white. There are endless reasons people choose not to marry their life partner. Some people donât grow up dreaming of their wedding day; they just want a partner they can love and grow old with. If thatâs how you feel, youâve got nothing to be ashamed of. Not getting married doesnât diminish your relationship, even if your friends donât share the same experience. Itâs understandable that theyâd question your choices, considering marriage is important to them. However, you donât owe anyone an explanation. Avoiding conflict with those who make you wrong You donât need to ditch your friends if they have a different experience of marriage. However, itâs hard to be made wrong by people you care about. To mitigate the animosity, be compassionately understanding of their experience. Just as youâd want the same from them, donât invalidate their view of marriage and agree to disagree. Having non-monogamous relationships On the surface, society pushes the morality of monogamous relationships, whether youâre married or not. To some, itâs a sin to date two people at once. Meanwhile, research shows that up to 60% of married people will engage in infidelity at some point in their lives. When everyoneâs on board, thereâs no problem Since monogamy is the standard expectation in society, you have a duty to inform potential partners of your lifestyle prior to getting involved with them. The only true problem with non-monogamous relationships is when someone isnât aware that their partner is non-monogamous. For those who are hard-wired to be non-monogamous, the idea of their partner being with someone else doesnât bother them at all. In fact, if they and their partner are happy, thatâs all that matters. Mixxxer, the new app for swingers, explains this point well. âNon-monogamous people are more focused on happiness â" both their own and their partnerâs â" and donât see the point of denying either party the chance to seek happiness in other people.â What works for some people doesnât work for others, and thatâs perfectly okay. When all people involved are aware and consent, there should be no problem. Being âout of fashionâ When you were in high school, being out of fashion had dire social consequences. Today, you may find that despite their age, some people still havenât made it past junior high. These people make it seem like a crime to be out of fashion, but what does that even mean? Fashion is arbitrary and unpredictable; whatâs considered to be âin fashionâ changes frequently, and entire styles are recycled every two or three decades. For instance, ruffles and accentuated sleeves were popular in the 17th century and have recently become part of contemporary fashion. Baggy pants were popular in the 1990s, and although skinny jeans reign supreme today, the baggy trend has been making a comeback for several years. Despite the trends of any era, there are always people who do their own thing. Donât be afraid to be one of those people! Fashion is a way to express yourself Fashion designers create their designs as an act of self-expression. The clothes you wear can also be an act of self-expression when youâre willing to step beyond expectations. Designers from all over the world work hard to create unique styles that benefit those who have a flare for originality. Even though many of these styles are eventually mass-produced, theyâre unique enough to stand out in a crowd. The unspoken rule is if youâre going to be original, youâre going to be out of fashion with every trend. Thereâs no way around it, so be proud when youâre out of fashion. It means youâre being true to yourself. . Image credit.
